Broken to Bespoke is a healing-centered, culturally affirming youth empowerment program for Black youth ages 11–18 in Minnesota.

Our Origin

Rooted in Kofi, led by community

Broken to Bespoke emerged from clinical work with African-American youth in the Wilder Foundation's Kofi Services program — a nationally recognized, culturally specific mental health and youth development model in Minnesota.

Founded by Dr. Carl L. Young, PhD, our work honors lived experiences, Black cultural traditions, and community strengths. We position Black youth as architects of their own futures — not problems to be solved.

Name: Broken to Bespoke reflects our philosophy — youth are not broken; they are becoming bespoke: uniquely crafted, purposeful, and worthy. This is not about fixing, but about creating space for identity, healing, and leadership to emerge.

To provide culturally grounded, healing-centered programming that affirms Black youth identity, builds resilience, and cultivates leadership.

Who We Serve

Black youth ages 11–18 & their families

No diagnosis, insurance, or cost required. Enrollment is through parent/guardian consent, youth interview, and cohort placement. We serve Columbia Heights, Fridley, Brooklyn Center, Minneapolis, and broader Twin Cities.
